Self Assessment Of Performance Of Jazz Assessment (14th December 2022)
Strengths
Overall, I feel that my performance of the Jazz sequence was successful. I correctly remembered the movements used within the piece and I was focused on delivering a good performance throughout. I also feel that I had a good rhythm throughout the performance as I was able to dance in time to the music throughout, even when changing the pace of certain movements to last for multiple counts; which I feel was another strength in my performance as it added character and my own impression to the sequence.
I also think that I had a good use of dynamics as many of my movements were wide and less enclosed making the performance more confident and expressive. As mentioned earlier, I also changed the pace of my movements; for example when performing the pirouette into the fan kick, I executed the pirouette quicker while slowing down the fan kick to last for a count longer. In addition to this, I feel that I made good use of my flexibility as I could perform all of the elements of the piece with relative ease and as a result my coordination didn't suffer a great deal.
Areas for Development
However, I do feel that there were a few things on which I could have improved upon in my performance; in particular I think that my use of emotion could have been greatly improved upon as I could have made much more use of facial expressions while I was dancing. I also feel that I could have improved on my posture and alignment, as this is something that I often forget about as a result of trying to focus on remembering the movements. As a result of my poor posture and alignment, I think I also performed a few constricted movements, in particular the pirouettes which as a result caused me to become off balance due to an uneven weight distribution, which I feel caused the whole piece to drop in quality as a result.
