Music Dance Relationship In Six - 2
Task 1 - No Way
Time Signature = 4/4
4 beats in a bar
Full pulse note = 1 beat (Crotchet)
Half pulse note = 1/2 beat (quaver)
The movement on the word "Shh" is a very sudden and harsh movement, in which we bring a hand across our body, closing our fingers and bringing them to a point while ensuring are feet are planted with our hand being the only limb that is moving on that lyric.
The "Shhh" takes place on the seventh beat of the bar and has the value of a single beat.
Task 2 - No Way
Time Signature = 4/4
No, there is not any change of the time signature within this section of music however the tempo changes.
The contrast in the music is very drastic, changing from an allegro tempo where the dance is the main focus of the performance, to an adagio tempo where the lyrics of the song and the singing is now the thing that audience should be focused on.
My dancing is slow, calm and much more at ease during the bridge of the song. These contrast my movements during the dance break which are much faster with a higher level of energy. Many of the movements in the dance break require you to be using multiple body parts at a time, where most of the movements within the bridge are isolated with us slowly moving our arms or legs at one time.
Task 3 - Relationship Between Lyrics And Movements
Ex-Wives -
- (0:30 - 0:40) During the lyrics "Divorced, beheaded, died" we perform movements that relate to these lyrics. In particular, on the word "beheaded" we turn our head to the side and slide our hand from the opposite side of our neck to mimic a beheading.
- (3:35 - 4:05) At this point of the bridge Catherine of Aragon is explaining who she is, one of the lines that she sings is "My sleeves may be green but my lipstick is red". During these lyrics, we perform some movements that relate to the words, in particular on the lyric "sleeves" we straighten our right arm out in front of us and we move our left hand up our right arm to mimic us pulling up our sleeves. Also with the lyric "lipstick" we bring our right hand up to our mouth and wipe our mouth as if we are removing lipstick
No Way -
- (0:50 - 1:00) During the chorus we sing the phrase "No, no, no, no, no, no, no way". While singing this phrase, we also perform the movement where we hold out our left hand to the side and wag our finger as if we are dismissing something.
- (0:50 - 1:00) During the second verse, the lyrics "The King chooses one, but which one will it be?" are sung by one of the queens. At this point we perform movements that relate to the words. For example, on the word "king" we place both of our hand aside our heads with our fingers up in the air to mimic the wearing of a crown, on the words "which one" we all shrug our shoulders and look around with an inquisitive facial expression to one another.
- (0:55 - 1:05) In the third verse, we perform a movement to match the lyrics "No one wants a waist over nine inches". In this movement, me and a fellow company member run up to Rudi (Anna of Cleves) and we mime pulling the laces of a corset incredibly tight.
- (1:05 - 1:15) Towards the end of verse three I begin moving a little bit upstage. It is at this point where one of the queens sings the line "At your complexion will bring all the boys in". On the word complexion, we use a movement where we highlight our faces in an over the top action. Next, on the word "boys" we look off to the audience and bring our hand out in front of us where we then beckon the audience towards us.
